Sumayya Jamil

Sumayya is a Pakistani foodie living in London, a mama to one lovely girl, a commercial lawyer and an avid food blogger, who fuels a passion for cooking, horses, cats and the sea. She lives by George Bernard Shaw words: “There is no love sincerer than the love of food”, she believe that food shapes our lives and loves – its real and honest. For her food has always seemed like a wondrous and adventurous journey where dreams become reality and the possibilities of creativity are endless – it’s an art as much as it’s a science.

Sumayya grew up in a family where all the women from her grandmothers, aunts and most importantly her mother cooked traditional family recipes with deep historical roots . But her mother taught her how to reinvent and invent recipes every time they were in the kitchen aided by her family’s travels and food experiences. Pakistani food is almost always cooked by estimation “andaza” and the best food is cooked that way in the sub-continent as it’s said that cooking is all about senses and ‘andaza’ being the 6th sense of cooking!

  • Spicy Pakistani Yoghurt Veggie Soup

    Tuesday February 21st, 2012

A delicious, authentic Pakistani recipe puts paid to any 'more mature' tubs of yogurt lurking at the back of the fridge. The ingredients of this brightly-hued, warming vegetable soup can be varied according to taste, time and the contents of the vegeatable drawer, making it a useful end-of-week dish to add to your repertoire.

  • Coconut and Saffron Tapioca pudding with fried Bananas and Almonds

    Thursday January 26th, 2012

This recipe allows for an unusual taste experience for children and a great way to introduce these through a dessert using tapioca which in it’s inherently bland and simple taste, allows you to infuse some exotic flavours. Kids enjoy mixing the saffron and then decorating with fried bananas and almonds – The addition of coconut milk marries well with these and adds natural sweetness, hence lessening the use of much refined sugar.

  • Green Masala Chicken Biryani

    Monday January 23rd, 2012

Biryani is the quintessential Pakistani comfort and celebratory food. To my family, Biryani means sleepy hot afternoons and Sunday lunches at my grandmother’s…and on the flip side it reminds me of lavish colourful Pakistani weddings and long festive Eid (religious day) lunches.
