Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla Launches

We sent Tudor to Jose Pizarro’s vibrant Bermondsey Street Restaurant to experience the launch of what is being promised to be this summer’s “must have” gin… and he wasn’t disappointed.

Yes folks it’s here… Tanqueray have just brought a brand new zing to the summer cocktail scene with their new edition, Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla.

Inspired by founder Charles Tanqueray's original 1830s recipes,  this gin brings a subtle fruit flavour combined with the bitter sweet, sometimes sharp, flavours of the Seville orange.

The underlying orange base of this Gin makes for an excellent Negroni or a simple but full of summer G&T… just add an orange slice to complete what is bound to become this season’s favourite drink.

Though if you want something really different Tudor recommends a Pegu Club, a cocktail with a serious history.

The Pegu Clubis named after the bar it was invented in, which was built in Rangoon, Burma (now Yangon, Myanmar) in 1880 to serve British army officers. The drink was created with a view to becoming the bar’s signature cocktail, and offered great refreshment in a hot country.

Replace the standard Gin in this recipe with Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla and you have a drink that truly matches its marvellous history.

The Pegu Club

Ingredients:

Dash Bitters, Dash Orange bitters, 3/4 oz Orange curaçao, 1 1/2 oz Gin, 1 Teaspoon Lime juice

Preparation: Shake ingredients together in a mixer with crushed ice. Strain into chilled glass, garnish and serve.

Served: Shaken

Jose Pizarro didn’t disappoint either, providing some delightful matching tapas dishes, salamis and cold cuts that provided an excellent match for this bright summer gin.

Though Pizarro’s has a fantastic range of Spanish wine and sherry, I have a feeling that this new Gin from Tanqueray will be top of the list for many of their diners this summer.

Pizarro Restaurant: 194 Bermondsey Street, London, SE1 3TQ

Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla (70cl, 41.3% ABV) is available online from Amazon for £24 with Prime shipping and 31 Dover, Amazon or The Whisky Exchange for £29.95.
