Connaught Village World Food Journey Has Begun

Connaught Village is hosting a World Food Journey throughout June 2018 offering foodies the opportunity to taste some culinary delights from all over the world without leaving London.

The World Food Journey will be made up of cuisine from Europe, The Middle East and South America, with the following restaurants in Connaught Village offering a small, signature dish throughout the whole of June: Abasto, Assal Patisserie, Bombay Palace, Buchanans Cheesemonger, Colbeh, Connaught Cellars, Le Pain Quotidien and Stuzzico.

Many of the restaurants and cafés offer al-fresco dining so you can enjoy the summer weather, but you could also take away your dishes and drinks to create your own gourmet hamper to be enjoyed in Hyde Park, just a few minutes walk away.

Begin your World Food Journey with an aperitif at Connaught Cellars. Enjoy their ‘three wine flight’; for £10 you can try three different wines from Provence where you can taste the sunshine of the South of France.

If you would rather take a bottle away as part of a hamper, you can buy a delicious Chateau Sainte Marguerite for £23.50. Founder, David Farber, has vast experience in wine portfolio management and tastes 6,000 wines a year.

Why not move on from there to try an appetising cheese platter at Buchanans Cheesemonger, founded by Rhuaridh who trained as an affineur in the maturing rooms of world famous cheesemongers Paxton and Whitfield. The platter will include four fresh cheeses selected from the counter accompanied by biscuits and chutney for £12.00.

As part of the World Food Journey, you can taste some Persian bread, hand-made in a traditional tandoor oven, with a selection of dips featuring hummus, aubergine and tzatziki at Persian restaurant, Colbeh. Prices start at £5.50.

Head Chef at award-winning Bombay Palace, Harjeet Singh, is an expert in Northern Indian cuisine. Listed among the best Indian restaurants in London, Bombay Palace offers the finest Indian street food. Experience traditional delights with their Chicken Kathi Roll for £7.00. The Roll, a skewer-roasted kebab wrapped in a paratha bread, is popular in the summer and is a street-food dish originating from Kolkata, India. This Roll can also be enjoyed al-fresco on a warm evening.

At Argentinian deli, Abasto, taste three of their Gourmet Empanadas for £8.95. With nine flavours of Argentinian pasties to choose from, pair your empanadas with a glass of wine from their exotic wine cellar.

A visit to this store and tasting rooms is a must for any artisan food lover, and the cheese (and tasty toasties) can also be taken away individually to create a delicious hamper.                                                                                                                                        

For a healthier option, why not try renowned Belgian restaurant and patisserie, Le Pain Quotidien’s organic and vegan lentil and avocado salad with freshly shaved fennel, raw slaw, chickpeas and basil vinaigrette at £10.45. Wash down with a delicious wine, beer or cider, or for a non-alcohol option, Le Pain Quotidien offers the most refreshing homemade lemonade.

Local Italian favourite, Stuzzico, will be offering their signature home-made burrata with rocket and cherry tomatoes, priced at £11.75. Created by culinary artist, Franco de Todaro, and using the highest quality ingredients, he is well known for his classic Italian cuisine presented in an elegant, modern style.

If you are a coffee lover, treat yourself at the newest addition to the village, Saint Aymes. At the boutique café, creative directors and London born sisters Michela and Lois Wilson bring a fully immersive experience of luxury exclusively to Connaught Village. Try their unique signature unicorn latte in pink or blue, topped with whipped cream, marshmallows and real 24ct gold. Priced at £7.45.

Finish off your journey with dessert from Assal Patisserie. From ‘Assal’ Patisserie, meaning ‘honey’, enjoy sweet Persian treats such as Baklava and pastries filled with fillings of jam, pistachio and cream, or try a vegan delicacy made from chick peas.

Pair these desserts with some Persian tea (from £5.00); with multiple flavours such as rose, saffron and jasmine.

Perfect for summer, Assal offers delicious home-made ice cream in flavours of saffron, pistachio and rose water for £2.50, or £2.00 to takeaway.
