Gidleigh Park, Chagford, Devon
Wednesday May 25th, 2011
The trouble with heading someplace that everyone proclaims “you’ll absolutely love!” is that it immediately puts the recipient of such a comment on the back foot. But Gidleigh Park deserves all its accolade and acclaim. The food is sublime; packed with beautifully juxtaposed flavours. -
The Grazing Goat. New Quebec Street, London
Monday May 23rd, 2011
Recently refurbished, The Grazing Goat has a ‘modern rustic’ feel, both to its bar and the first floor restaurant, with its wood clad walls, wooden floors and furniture enhanced with a scattering of artefacts. We had a great meal at The Grazing Goat, their service is attentive and the staff very helpful. -
Century Brasserie
Friday May 20th, 2011There’s a good reason Soho members clubs are the preservation of society’s elite, and that’s to keep plebs like us at bay. Caroline Sargent did a just job of proving how sound that door policy is on her recent visit to Century Club.

The Henry Root
Wednesday May 18th, 2011Right wing nutcase? A legend in wet fish? A lifelong fan of Thatcher? Henry Root was all of these and now he's a gastropub too. Anita Pati goes to see what the old man is cooking up in Chelsea.

Café East
Monday May 16th, 2011More like a canteen than a café, even today there are more tables full than empty, quite a feat when you consider it’s a Friday afternoon and, as I may have mentioned already, we’re in the middle of a leisure park. The dining room is bright, clean and ever so slightly clinical and runs a ticket system when it’s even busier.

The Real Greek
Friday May 13th, 2011The Real Greek in Covent Garden, London, just how real is it? Do I care? I’m eating lunch not writing a thesis for a sociology degree. What’s on the plate is what counts and despite dire warnings, I found the Real Greek really not bad at all.

The Jam Tree. Chelsea
Tuesday May 10th, 2011The menu makes no apology for offering something for everyone, the ambience is cool and the staff pleasantly unprofessional, in a good way, and relaxed. The Asian side seems to be stronger than the others, although the burgers did look good as they went past. Slightly hotter starters and I could really warm to The Jam Tree.

Petrichor, The Cavendish Hotel, London
Thursday May 5th, 2011
Petrichor has a seasonal a la carte menu and describe their cooking style as ‘contemporary British’. The ingredients used in preparing their dishes are sourced wherever possible from British farms and producers. The food at Petrichor was excellent and the atmosphere was sedate and charming we very much enjoy our meal there. -
Bay of Bengal, 164 High St, Edinburgh
Tuesday May 3rd, 2011
High Street/The Royal Mile is a tourist magnet and a busy place night and day. Eateries line both sides of the mile and there is something to tempt every palate but if it’s good, honest Indian/Thai cooking you are looking for in relaxed, friendly surroundings, the Bay of Bengal ticks all the boxes and won’t dent your wallet. -
Trullo
Tuesday May 3rd, 2011Hurray, Trullo! Some nine months after it opened, I have finally been! Brushing past it on my way to Highbury & Islington tube, this esteemed neighbourhood restaurant, in my own neighbourhood, has been rammed happy every time I pass.
