Kai Mayfair

Between a Chinese restaurant like Gourmet San – cheap and authentic - and Kai – far from cheap and a fascinating fusion of east and west - lies a sad sea of sweet and sour. So those looking for Chinese fine dining should walk on water to Kai’s discreet door in Mayfair. Indeed a certain restaurant guide has voted Kai Best Chinese Restaurant in London, in its 2009 Restaurant Guide.

Keelung

So fresh is the fish, displayed in crates just inside the door, that the sea bass and mullet stare at you with accusing bright eyes, the crabs blow bubbles and neighbouring lobsters thoughtfully flex their claws against the restraining rubber bands.

Kensington Square Kitchen, Kensington Square, London,

One of the best things about living in London is that there's always something new to discover, and last week, behind the old Barkers building, we found Kensington Square, a little haven on tranquility, yet within sight of the ever-busy High Street. We were charmed at once.

Kenza, Devonshire Square, London

I can see why it appeals to the City crowd so much, with very few exciting restaurants in area, Kenza stands out and perhaps deservedly so.  The interior design alone is well worth a visit.  Well… it’s cheaper than a flight to Morocco, surely?

Kettner's

I do miss seeing Mel Smith smoking cigars in the Champagne Bar, maybe they should have him stuffed and brought back? Maybe they should have us all stuffed and brought back? No, you can’t preserve the past you have to move on.

Kiasu, London

“Our chefs are ANGRY chefs,” declares Elizabeth Seah of Kiasu with a big, irreverent smile on her face. “They’re really angry. Cooking at Kiasu means staying as faithful to the original dishes as possible, down to the very last detail – and that takes hard work

Kitchen Italia, Seven Dials, London

With an express pre and post theatre menu for £9.95 including some wine, all bases are covered here. It’s not the spot for a romantic dinner a deux, but for honest, flavour packed, well-priced Italian food I can’t think of anywhere that competes in London right now. Rush in and waddle out.
