Chateau de Haute-Serre, the leading Malbec producer in the Cahors region of France has released two vintages through Oddbins both in-store and online.

The Château de Haute-Serre Grand Vin Seigneur Malbec, from the Vigouroux estate, has a very dark colour with crimson highlights and a powerful bouquet of Morello cherry, blackcurrant and spice. The fresh and fruity nose is reflected in the palate which has a long, silky smooth after taste.

Château de Haute Serre Grand Vin Seigneur AOC Cahors 2012: £18.50

The Lafleur has a very fine nose and dark red brilliance. In the mouth it presents soft tannins, with a concentration of flavours reminiscent of redcurrant jelly. A feminine wine with structure and elegance.

Chateau Lafleur de Haute Serre AOC Cahors 2014: £12.75

Chateau de Haute-Serre

The kimmeridgian calcareous stony, clay-rich terroir south-east of Cahors is ideal for vine growing and, under the stewardship of Georges and Bertrand-Gabriel Vigouroux, Château de Haute-Serre has transformed the noble Malbec grape to produce an outstanding Cahors wine in a very personal style.

In 1975 George Vigouroux re-introduced the grape to Cahors which was recognised as a true ‘Cru’ from the very first release of the AOC Cahors in 1976.  The award-winning wines of the Château de Haute-Serre are immediately identifiable by their deep ruby robe, aromas of candied red fruit, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and roasted bean, and refined, silky tannins that give a deliciously velvety mouthfeel.

In 2010 the family added a thousand truffle trees to the estate in order to cultivate its own supply of the world famous ‘black diamond’. Patrons of the vineyard’s own restaurant, La Table de Haute Serre, a modern bistro offering a selection of regional dishes perfectly paired with the Estate’s own wines and the award winning wines from the family-owned hotel Château de Mercuès., have the opportunity to taste these prize truffles at source.

Haute-Serre is now fully committed to wine tourism, offering vineyard tours, tasting workshops, cookery courses and harvesting workshops.  Accommodation is available at the neighbouring 30-room Chateau de Mercues, which stands overlooking the Lot River.
