Plenish, which initially began making its mark on the health and wellness market in 2012 with its cold-pressed juices, first launched its range of award-winning plant-powered vegan, organic, gluten-free and unsweetened ‘milks’ in 2016.
This year, it has expanded the range to include a brand-new dairy alternative – Oat M*lk and I received some samples to try.
Made with only organic, naturally gluten-free, soaked and pressed oats, filtered water and a bit of salt, it is a great source of fibre.
What more, oats have been found to have cholesterol-lowering effects, whilst also being a great source of folate, zinc, iron and magnesium.
The Plenish Oat M*lk also has less sugar than some other brands, thanks to a unique production process that means less starch in turned into sugar.
Alongside the new Oat M*lk, Plenish has a variety of dairy-free ‘milks’, including almond, cashew, coconut and hazelnut.
The coconut milk is creamy and rich, while the nutty flavour of the hazelnut complements coffee especially well.
However, they do split slightly when you put them into hot drinks, giving quite an unappetising look, despite how much they were stirred.
Out of the full range, the m*lk that was the most impressive was the Cashew M*lk. As well as being a good source of protein, it was the best when used in coffee or tea for replicating the texture of real milk.
It didn’t split, and it was completely versatile – we tried it in everything from white sauces to waffle batters to making a bowl of porridge.
