Michelin-starred chef, John Burton-Race and son, Pip (15) have co-authored a first-hand account to growing and cooking your own food.
Based on his personal experience converting a chicken run into a vegetable garden during lockdown, this ground-breaking guide features 80 brand new recipes (the first in quite a while) from John Burton-Race, growing calendars, ‘spade-loads' of inspiration and a forward by JB-R’s great friend, Raymond Blanc OBE.
Easy family-focused recipes using produce grown in the garden are inevitably underpinned by the rigour of two Michelin-starred chef, Burton-Race.
When lockdown was announced, chef John Burton-Race and son, Pip (15) wasted no time digging a vegetable garden out of a disused chicken run on their remote Devon farm.
With the nearest shops miles away, long drives to buy groceries and queuing posed a particular problem. John had been sent home in January from Vietnam (before we had even heard of Coronavirus in the UK) where he had been cooking at a beach resort for the season.
Like his peers in the hospitality industry, he suddenly found he had plenty of time on his hands. Four months later, and as well as a flourishing vegetable, fruit and herb garden, a brand-new book has emerged, co-authored by father and son and designed to inspire others to ‘grow and cook your own food on a budget’.
Whether you have a piece of land, a garden border or a window box there is inspiration and use in this book for all.
Readers can look forward to 80 brand-new recipes by the two-Michelin-starred chef - his first new selection for public consumption in several years - suitable for family meals using the produce grown in his garden. The book includes growing guides, planting calendars and ‘spade-loads ‘of inspiration for others to get outside and do the same.
