This November, the team behind Clapham’s famed WC will open a new site on Lamb’s Conduit Street.
WC Bloomsbury emerges from a Grade II listed Victorian Water Closet and will serve sharing boards, small plates, wine and cocktails in the thoughtfully-restored, subterranean space.
The site is listed on Historic England’s buildings ‘at risk register’ and the team have painstakingly preserved and respected the 120 year old space, whilst paying homage to the surrounding area’s rich history.
A portrait of Thomas Coram - a philanthropist who founded the London Foundling Hospital nearby, to look after abandoned children in 1752, hangs above the bar in tribute to his work.
The building has been diligently restored, with the original wood stalls forming semi-private bookable booths and some of the authentic Victorian porcelain pieces have been upholstered, providing further space to sit. Original tiles form parts of walls and the marble floors have been preserved, with low ceilings creating an inviting and intimate feel.
The venue will offer guests rest and respite from the streets of London, with a considered drinks menu that has something for everyone - be that a glass from the thoughtful, simple and everchanging wine list or the discerning cocktail offering.
WC Bloomsbury’s food offering has been created to complement the drink selection. Charcuterie and cheese is sacred there, served with homemade chutneys and pickles, perfect for grazing. A selection of small plates and vegan options will cater to all palates.
WC Bloomsbury will open November 2020.
