This July, Babur, one of South London’s most enduring Indian restaurants, marksan extraordinary milestone: 40 years of business in Forest Hill.

Since opening in 1985, Babur has grown to hold 2 AA Rosettes and earning praise for its inventive yet authentic approach to regional cooking. The restaurant’s longevity is down to the vision of owner Emdad
Rahman, the talent of Executive Chef Jiwan Lal – who celebrates his own 20-year tenure this
summer, and the loyalty of a team and patrons who have been part of the journey for decades.

“From day one in 1985, we were doing things differently than what people expected from an Indian restaurant at the time. And that spirit hasn’t changed. We’ve never stopped evolving, never stopped working to be better,
to surprise and delight.”

To mark the occasion, Babur will host a Ruby Jubilee party at its Forest Hill restaurant on Thursday 17th July, featuring live entertainment and an exclusive preview of the five-course tasting menu curated by Chef Jiwan.

The Ruby Jubilee menu revisits and reimagines dishes that have defined Babur’s identity over four decades, in addition to signature cocktails crafted especially for the occasion by Babur mixologist, Rupam Talukdar.

Following the launch, the Ruby Jubilee menu (à la carte and tasting formats) will be available to the public from Friday 18th July to Sunday 14th September.

To extend the celebration beyond the plate, Babur will also launch a limited-edition merchandise and gift range, including:
● ‘Babur: Forty Years of Flavour’ Cookbook – featuring 40 iconic recipes, archival images, and guest reflections.
● Ruby Jubilee Chutney Trio – in Green Apple, Forest Berry, and Carrot Pickle varieties.
● Embroidered Babur Cap – a collectible nod to one of London’s most beloved Indian restaurants.

Items will be available in-restaurant and online while stocks last.

Tickets to the Ruby Jubilee event are priced at £75pp, including a welcome cocktail, entertainment, and the five-course menu. Early booking is recommended.
