Biltong (marinated and seasoned air-dried meat) is one of South Africa’s most popular snacks and Skye Saltzman – South African and founder of Woza – knows his stuff.

Woza Biltong & Charcuterie offers beef and venison biltong in four flavours: Original Beef and Peri Peri biltong and Cape Cinnamon and Wild Venison – the latter two winning Great Taste Awards in 2017.

I’ve always liked beef jerky – the intensity of the meaty flavour with the heat of the spices beats a packet of crisps as a snack hands down.

I tried the Original Beef flavour and Peri Peri, and it is the best biltong I’ve tasted! The slices are just the right consistency; thin enough to be easy to chew (there’s nothing worse than chewy jerky that requires half an hour of mastication) and substantial enough to delivery a punchy flavour hit. Very satisfying.

Despite the South African inspiration, Woza is made in the UK using British ingredients, including venison sourced from the West Country, and is high-quality and free from any additional artificial nasties, as well as refined sugar and gluten.

Skye suggests munching his biltong mixed into a fresh salad and as a delicious accompaniment to gin, whisky and craft beer – I just wolfed the whole packet down in one go, but maybe next time I’ll be a bit more dignified and discover a whole new taste-pairing experience.

Prices start from £4 for a snack pack and are also available in sharing packs and whole pieces. Find out more atwww.eatwoza.com
