To celebrate Veganuary, Charles Artisan Bread has launched its Vegan Savoury Croissants menu which is available at both sites in Clapton and Chobham.

Who doesn’t love a croissant? All that flaky buttery goodness dipped, if you’re like me, into a big bowl of milky morning coffee.

How about moving up a notch though and filling your croissant with something savoury and, as it’s Veganaury, something vegan too>

Pop into Charles Artisan Bread and you can choose from three vegan croissants, including Cheese and Tomato, Zalmon and Cream Cheese and Vegan N’duja & Brie, all priced at £4,25 and available across the whole month.

We tried one of each and found they made a pretty good lunch option, and more filling than they first appeared.

Zalmon®️ is interesting stuff. It looks just like smoked salmon and has a very similar texture. It’s full make up is a bit of a secret but basically it’s thin ribbons of carrot that has the smoky flavours of smoked salmon. Usually you’d put it with cream cheese into a bagel, but why not a croissant? Less chewy than a bagel, a bit lighter and with overtones of caramel.

Vegan N’duja & Brie, was good too but not enough N’duja bite for my taste, it needed some more to push back against the caramel notes which seemed more pronounced in this one.

Tasty little things to try when you’re passing the Clapton or Chobham sites

The bakery also offers a selection of vegan pastries and bakes – carb-loving costumers can choose from several loafs including the Clapton Sourdough (white), the Charles Wholemeal Sourdough, the Multigrain Wholemeal Sourdough and daily specials, as well as savoury Focacce and delicious Sandwiches for every taste.

Sweet lovers can pick from a selection of handmade pastries with Vegan Almond Danish, Vegan Pear & Almond Danish, Vegan Apple Crumble Danish, and daily specials including Vegan Donuts.

Specialising in Danish artisan sourdough bread and pastries, each loaf and pastry is made with natural ingredients without additives. Using a slow 24-hour fermentation process, the bakery produces a finite number of goods daily, mantaining high quality standards to satisfy its clients’ needs.

Championing its East London’s origin, both bakeries stocks several local products including Honey from Hackney Garden Honey, Vegan Cheese from Honestly Tasty, Chilli Sauces from Dalston Chillies, and other delicatessen.

Charles Artisan Bread is also passionate about giving back to its beloved local community. Over the Christmas period across the month of December, it helped charity Hackney Night Shelter  with their mission to provide shelter and support to homeless guests, kindly donating 50p for each pastry sold at both its micro-bakery in Clapton and its bakery in Chobham, just in front of the Velodrome.

Charles Artisan Bread is open daily from 8am until 3pm. The Clapton bakery is located at 51 Lower Clapton Road, E5 0NS, the Chobham site is located at 8 Abercrombie Road, Chobham Manor, E20 1FU.
