We have selected some great places to celebrate everyone’s favourite national food day, with restaurants serving up everything from tableside crêpe suzette, to traditional Swedish semla, and stacks of buttermilk pancakes.

Celebrate Fettisdagen with Semla at Aquavit London

Looking for an alternative to pancakes this Shrove Tuesday? Aquavit London will be inviting guests to celebrate Fettisdagen, Fat Tuesday, with the traditional Swedish delicacy of Semla. These delicious cardamom buns are filled with almond paste and topped with whipped cream, and will be available for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 27 February – 5 March (£6 each). Aquavit London opened in St James’s Market in late 2016, showcasing the very best of Nordic cuisine and design, with menus overseen by Executive Chef Henrik Ritzen. 

Aqua Shard

This pancake day indulge in aqua shard’s extravagant and highly photogenic pancake dessert, the blueberry’mille feuille’ pancake cake. Served with blueberry ripple ice cream, maple syrup jelly and to top it off a crisp rasher of syrup glazed pancetta. Pair nicely with aqua shard’s unique pancake cocktail, a sweet combination of dark rum, maple syrup, chocolate vermouth and to garnish a caramel basket and mini pancake. Dessert £9, Cocktail £16.

Three-course pancakes for Shrove Tuesday at Tom’s Kitchen

Tom’s Kitchen is set to celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a delicious selection of gourmet pancakes available for lunch and dinner on Tuesday 28 February at the restaurants in Chelsea, St Katharine Docks, Canary Wharf, Somerset House, and Birmingham. Guests will be able to choose from the Potato pancake with fried duck egg, wild mushroom ragout and bacon crumbs (starter, £9.50), or the Prawn and cheese pancake with buttered spinach and mustard sauce (main course, £16). For dessert, the Tom’s Kitchen chefs will be serving up Blood orange pancakes with orange butter sauce and marmalade (dessert £8). Enjoy London’s Meatiest Stack This Pancake Day

To celebrate this year’s Pancake Day (28th February), the Head Chef at Heliot Steak House has created a sensational stack filled with top quality succulent meats layered between light and fluffy pancakes.

‘Heliot’s Meat Mountain Stack’ is made up of six American style pancakes, a 200g USDA prime rump steak, six rashers of streaky bacon, two Cumberland suasages, a fried duck egg and lashings of maple syrup.

Priced at just £14, this sizeable stack is the perfect way to indulge this Pancake Day and will be available from 5pm on Tuesday 28th February, as well as 12-4pm on Saturday 25th February and Sunday 26th February, at Heliot Steak House located inside London’s world-famous The Hippodrome.

Celebrate Mardi Gras with Crêpe Suzettes at Le Pont de la Tour

Join Le Pont de la Tour for Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday on the 28th February and enjoy their Crêpe Suzette paired with a delicious glass of Juraçon’La Magencia’ Lapeyre for £15 per person. The signature dish is prepared in a chafing dish at the table and served hot with a sauce of sugar, orange juice, and Grand Marnier liqueur, poured over the crepes and flambéed.  

Matcha Mille Crepe at Jason Atherton’s Sosharu

At Jason Atherton’s Japanese restaurant Sosharu, this year’s Shrove Tuesday will be marked with no ordinary pancakes. The restaurant’s signature Matcha Mille Crepe boasts layer upon layer of crepes sandwiched together with a rich matcha cream to create a cake-like slice of pancakes. Served with a refreshing scoop of matcha sorbet and Chantilly cream on the side, the dessert is at once sweet and invigorating, for a celebration of Pancake Day the Japanese way.

Jude’s ice cream: the dream pancake topping

Pimp your homemade pancakes this Shrove Tuesday with a generous scoop of Jude’s ice cream. With a broad repertoire of delicious flavours, Jude’s is dedicated to crafting the world’s tastiest ice cream from their dairy in Hampshire. Celebrate Shrove Tuesday with Blanchette Soho and Blanchette East

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday, Chef Director Tam Storrar will be whipping up fluffy crepes and galettes in classics flavours and with Blanchette twists. Both Blanchette Soho and Blanchette East will be serving up specials all day from their bar counter crepe stations. Pancake fans will recognise the traditional Ham, cheese and egg galette and for those with a sweet tooth there will also be a selection of Blanchette inspired dessert crepes. All-American pancakes at Avenue St James’s

To mark this year’s Shrove Tuesday, Manhattan-inspired restaurant, Avenue St James’s, will be turning to an all-American classic, with pancakes created in true stateside style. Thick, fluffy and piled high, banana pancakes will be topped with a toothsome fudge sauce and salted caramel ice cream and will be available alongside passion fruit crepe soufflé with vanilla sauce, for a French-inspired alternative.
