Junsei, the yakitori restaurant from Aman Lakhiani, is celebrating National Sake Week with a month-long collaboration alongside one of London’s leading sake experts, Masayo San.

The partnership will explore the depth, diversity and craftsmanship of Japan’s ancient national drink through an exclusive food and sake pairing experience.

Masayo San of World Sake Imports has curated a four-pour sake menu designed to complement a specially created selection of dishes from Junsei. A London-based sake sommelier and educator, Masayo is known for championing Japan’s historic breweries and bringing their work to the UK’s culinary scene. Her experience includes curating sake programmes for restaurants such as Osteria Angelina, alongside holding the prestigious JSA Wine Expert qualification.

Priced at £62 per person, the World Sake Imports X Junsei menu brings together four distinctive sakes sourced from across Japan, from the snow-covered mountains of the north to the rivers of Yamaguchi Prefecture. The selection includes Kamoizumi Umelicious Umeshu, Masumi Shiro “Sake Matinee”, Tedorigawa Yamahai Junmai “Silver Mountain” and Tamagawa Time Machine.

Each pour has been matched with a dedicated dish from Junsei, including beef tartare on crispy rice, crab and corn croquettes, the restaurant’s signature yakitori skewers, grilled salmon donburi and milk purin to finish.

Throughout the collaboration, Masayo will be joined by Junsei’s Head Mixologist and General Manager, Rizwan Khan, offering guests an insight into Japanese sake, its traditions and drinking culture. The pair will host a special service on 19th August, with vinyl DJs providing the soundtrack for an evening centred around food, sake and music.
