This January, a modern interpretation of a classic French crêperie comes to Spitalfield’s Artillery Passage with the opening of L’Ami Malo.

Before opening officially on 29th January, diners can enjoy a sneak preview of this chic crêperie and bar by taking advantage of L’Ami Malo’s soft opening offer of 50% off food between 16th – 27th January.* By reservation only, please book by visiting www.lamimalo.com.

French owners Emilien Lesourd and Vincent Couvreur, alongside Breton-born head chef Williams Guillemot, have created a stylish all-day eatery and bar inspired by France’s northwest and the traditional town of St Malo in Brittany, famous for its delicious galettes.

The menu elevates the humble galette by using buckwheat – favoured for its healthy, versatile and gluten-free properties. Suitable for sharing, savoury galettes take a unique Asian twist and come delivered in’maki’-style rolls, with signatures including Bayonne ham with Comté cheese, tomato tartare, roasted hazelnuts and baby spinach; and smoked salmon, avocado, lemon cream cheese and sunflower seeds.

Larger, more traditional galettes are topped with impeccably sourced ingredients in delicious combinations such as confit duck leg with caramelised pear and red wine jus; Morteau sausage, leek fondue, Jersery Royal New Potatoes and French mustard; or Hepburns smoked ham, duck egg, maple cured bacon and Comté cheese.

Naturally, classic sweet crêpes will also feature and come with fillings from classic lemon and sugar to apple compote, butter sauce and salted caramel.

Le Moulin, a French take on a speakeasy bar, is tucked away at the back of the restaurant with its own entrance. The bar will showcase seasonal cocktails – including the Pommeau Spritz, a blend of apple juice, cider, calvados and apple blossom flower – and, as one might expect from a Breton-inspired restaurant, the drinks menu includes a delightful range of craft ciders from Brittany and Normandy such as Cidrerie Nicol and Maison Sassy, whilst the exclusively French wine list features orange and organic varieties.

L’Ami Malo will be open six days a week, serving lunch and dinner every Monday through to Saturday.
