A new plant-based restaurant, mallow, is opening in the heart of Borough Market opposite Southwark Cathedral.
The new concept has been designed by the team behind Mildreds which has been offering plant-based cuisines since 1988.
mallow will offer an all-day dining concept, serving fresh, colourful and internationally inspired plant-based cuisine.
This will be the first full plant-based restaurant in Borough Market since it was established in its current location in 1756.
The restaurant will sit across two floors, on the ground floor guests will be welcomed into the ‘Roots Room’ with an open kitchen for diners to get a glimpse of the action, whilst the first floor will encompass the ‘Floret dining room’ and ‘Petal Bar’ for guests to enjoy cocktails and small plates.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, mallow will offer Borough Market a modern, relaxed dining-style atmosphere serving seasonal plant-based and vegan dishes, where fruit and vegetables take centre stage.
The menu will have nods to Mildreds iconic plant-based menu with a strong focus on sustainability, seasonality and provenance and designed to have as little waste as possible.
Through carefully sourced ingredients and innovative cooking techniques. mallow will make as much of its own ingredients on site as possible, from vegan feta, labneh and flatbreads to garden pickles, jams and spice blends.
Seasonal fruit and vegetables will be the star with a selection of small and large plates and handcrafted vegan desserts.
Hero dishes will include small plates of Cauliflower chaatt with coriander yoghurt and Porcini truffle croquettes, leeks and aioli.
Large plates will feature Shiitake dashi, udon, mushroom sesame tempeh and daikon, Banana blossom tacos with smashed peas, pistachio mole and pink grapefruit and a flavoursome Plum plant chicken burger.
All desserts will be made on site featuring signature dishes of Kumquat lemon meringue
pie,Chocolate hazelnut financier and white chocolate mousse and a Campfire marshmallow.
mallow will serve breakfast daily Monday – Friday until 11am and brunch (9am-4pm) throughout the weekend.
The restaurant will be open seven days a week until 11pm, offering guests a new cocktail hotspot in the Borough Market area. Guests will be able to choose from cocktail, mocktails, wine and fizz, beer and fresh soft drinks.
Signature cocktails will include a Market martini featuring sapling vodka, vermouth, Borough Market olives and the Grapefruit negroni made with grapefruit rum, takamaka spiced rum, peychaud’s aperitivo, vermouth.
