It’s a Thursday 5pm and you’ve had the week from hell at work, you need a cocktail, where do you go? Spelzini!

mcith_image001.jpg“Cichetti” hour is from 4-7pm, providing aperitivo small plates with cocktails, natural wine, craft beer. The Italian/ Venetian style all day eatery opened its doors in the heart of Shoreditch.

We tried the selection of natural wines, vermouth cocktails alongside small plates of anchovies, pickled chicory, hummus and pickled radish, salami, brie and apple with oil and black pepper, and of course bread to mop it all up.

All of the small plates hold up well together for complete complementary mix and max. The cheese and salami are also local with the salami being from just up the road in Angel!

The vibe is great, service even better, and the delicious place has a gorgeous backstory too, with the name coming from Luigi Spelzini, a fishmonger and grocer from Liguria Italy who came to London in the 1980s. He became part of Fulham’s community and later went on to be a seaside grocer in Kent.

Mr. Spelzini was the current owner’s great grandfather and this all day eatery is his London Legacy.

Thanks to the social eating and drinking at its core, I would recommend this new classic.
