This week sees the start of gourmet French mustard brand La Maison Maille’s Fête de la Gastronomie – a fantastic two-week celebration of food in London celebrating London’s finest flavour creators with a French twist.

Maille has partners with eight unique tastemakers to create a unique collection of dishes that will be available during La Fête, including Grain Store, Maître Choux, Bibendum, Finks Salt and Sweet, Cobble Lane Cured, Wildes Cheese and Moxon’s. Just from the line-up, we knew we were in for some tasty treats.

We have the chance to experience a sneak-preview of a selection of the dishes that will be served in the different locations at the heart of Maille in the UK – The Maille Boutique in Piccadilly.

The trio of mustard washed cheeses, who rides have been infused with Maille mustard were a personal favourite. The delicious tanginess of Maille mustard really infused the cheeses well, creating a delicate but perfectly balanced flavour. These will, for the main Fête, be made into a delicious Welsh Rarebit.

We also trued the Nduja sausage, which seems to be a flavour of the moment, with the wholegrain mustard. Again, another taste sensation that for the two weeks will be served in a Nduja and wholegrain mustard scotch egg.

Finally, we had the chance to try a selection of the many, many mustards that Maille have on offer. The classic Dijon went down a treat, as did the honey Dijon mustard which had the perfect balance of sweetness. My personal favourite, however, was from the Maille pump – the limited edition rosemary honey mustard, which will be appearing on everything I eat going forward. What’s more, it comes in a beautiful green re-fillable jar, that is impossible to lose in the fridge.

The dishes that will be served throughout La Fête and during the long-table banquet will be:

  • Galvin Bistrot de Luxe: BBQ & southern fried rabbit, rosemary & honey mustard mayonnaise and watercress
  • Grain Store: Ricotta and wholegrain mustard, stuffed courgette flower, potato and parsley veloute
  • Bibendum: Sautéed scallops with samphire, pancetta and grain mustard beurre blanc
  • Finks Salt and Sweet: Seared tuna tataki with a ponzu dressing and a mustard crisp hat
  • Cobble Lane Cured: Nduja and wholegrain mustard scotch egg
  • Moxon’s: Beech smoked haddock croquette with Dijon mustard, served with spring onion mayonnaise
  • Wildes Cheese: Trio of mustard washed cheeses
  • Maître Choux: Duo of éclairs: Strawberries, basil & mascarpone and caramel

The two week Fête de la Gastronomie, Maille will culminate in an alfresco dining experience – La Rive Gauche. For one night only, London’s Southbank will be transformed into Paris’s iconic Left Bank – creating the perfect setting to enjoy a culinary adventure from all eight Flavour Creators.

150 guests will enjoy an indulgent tasting menu that brings together all the flavours created and celebrated during Fête de la Gastronomie. Against the breath-taking backdrop of St. Pauls and the Thames, the long-table banquet will embody the essence of Parisian gastronomy paired with the vibrant London food scene.

For those who haven’t been lucky enough to get tickets (which are now sold out) and to continue the celebrations throughout the year, food aficionados can visit La Maison Maille’s Piccadilly Boutique for a series of one-off culinary events.
