This July, Fiesta de Mexico will bring the verve, sights, smells and flavours of Mexico’s rich and diverse culture to the heart of the City of London.

mcith_Mexican.jpgTaking place over 26th – 28th July in Guildhall Yard, the square, decorated with colourful Ã¢â‚¬Ëœpapel picado’ bunting, will recreate one of Mexico’s famous fiestas, complete with authentic food, drink and produce stalls.

 From Mariachi bands and Aztec dance performances to traditional artisan workshops and electrifying LuchaLibre shows, the live entertainment at Fiesta de Mexico will be like nothing ever seen before in London.

With the Fiesta kicking off at noon on Friday, guests can to tuck into authentic specialities from some of London’s finest Mexican restaurants and food traders lining the square. Foodie favourites such as Mestizo, Maria Sabina and Lupita will be serving up a delicious variety of Mexican classics including tacos, tostadas, tamales and quesadillas.

Fairgoers will be able to purchase artisanal culinary products and rare local produce from Mexico as well as take part in an array of expert masterclasses and talks throughout the weekend. The fiesta will be one of the highlights of Mexico Food Month.

Those wanting to learn more about Mexico’s most famous tipples can take part in the tequila and mezcal workshops & tastings – which are run in association with London’s Tequila and Mezcal Fest.

Leading the way will be Las Adelitas, an all-female mariachi band, as well as Pablo Aguilar’s Mariachi Orchestra and Las Guadalupes, a mariachi duo.

They will be joined by one of Europe’s finest Mexican bands, Grupo 4 Cascabel, playing folk music from Veracruz, while Jari Castillo will perform a tribute to some of Mexico’s greatest singers and a Mexican funk band led by Adrian García will get the fiesta started.

Throughout the weekend guests can enjoy colourful dance performances by the Mestizo Folklore Group as well as Aztec dance shows by Atlchinolli Group and an incredible show by Europe’s only Mexican Charro, showing all his skills with his lasso or lazo.

Art workshops by Mexican artist Katapixia will be offered to guests of all ages, from making’loteria cards’ to traditional painting and Mexican basket weaving.

No Mexican fiesta would be complete without Mexico’s iconic masked Lucha Libre wrestlers, who will be fighting it out on both Friday and Saturday evenings in a thrilling and spectacular battle of good vs evil.

A Mexican popular culture phenomenon, the sport was first introduced in the early 20th century and has since developed into a unique form of professional wrestling characterised by vibrant attire, impressive techniques and high-flying manoeuvres.

Taking place in the height of the summer and perfect for families and groups of all ages, Fiesta de  Mexico is a three day celebration of Mexican food, drink and entertainment in the heart of London.

This unique event has been created with the support of the UK’s Mexican Embassy, Mexican Chamber of Commerce, MexGrocer, Tequila Fest & The City of London Corporation.
