On 5-6 August, Hackney Wick’s authority on chicken wings, Randy’s Wing Bar, will be presenting the #LondonWingFest, sponsored by Frank’s RedHot Sauce, in attempt to find the best wings in the UK.

This year, the Wing Fest will be heading to Canada Water’s Printworks to find the King of the Wing, putting 18 of the country’s finest connoisseurs of the poultry delight, through their paces with two challenges to find London’s Best Buffalo Wing and London’s Best Wild Wing.

London’s Best Buffalo Wing

Described in the North American dictionary, from where this mighty morsel hales, as “deep-fried wings coated in a spicy sauce,” the description slightly underestimates the cult following this humble bar snack has started.

Few know that Frank’s RedHot sauce is the secret ingredient in the original buffalo wing recipe, created way back in the 60s in Buffalo, USA. But what saucy flavours will 2017’s Wing Fest bring?!

London’s Best Wild Wing

This category is looking to explore and demonstrate the many exciting ways a chicken wing can be prepared and served in the broadest sense possible.

In this category anything goes. Any flavour, any technique, any taste. Basically the rule is, there are no rules.

The 18 culinary warriors battling it out in 2017 are a mixture of street food vendors, pop up legends, and restaurants including:

Absurd Bird | Buffalo Joes | Butchies | Chicken George | Chicken Shack | Earl’s | Joe’s Southern Table & Bar | King Samosa | Le Bun | Mother Flipper | Randy’s Wing Bar | Spit & Roast | The Joint | Thunderbird | We Serve Humans | Wing Box  | Wingmans | The Smoke Brothers

All wings are £1 and will be sold in individual joints (drums or flats) to allow voters to try as many wings as possible from each of the contestants.  Ticket holders will decide the winners by voting via the Wing Fest app on their smart phones.

The day will also see the return of Dr Sweetsmoke’s deadly Lava Wing Challenge, which causes carnage every year, and Frank’s RedHot will be hosting the notorious wing eating competition.

There will be BBQ cooking demonstrations and live music throughout both days. Go hungry.
