Mums Know Best At Gunpowder

This Mother’s Day, Gunpowder will unveil a line-up of new dishes celebrating their mothers’ most treasured recipes. Founder Harneet Baweja and Head Chef Nirmal Save have drawn on family recipes and memories of their childhoods in India to create seasonal dishes, honouring the impact their mums have had on their cooking.

From the 20th March, Gunpowder, the home style Indian kitchen in Spitalfields will introduce their mothers’ dishes onto the Spring Menu with Smoked Aubergine with onions and tomatoes, done Punjabi style in a nod to Harneet’s Grandmother; Aunty Sulu’s Wild Rabbit Pulao, inspired by Nirmal’s mother and Harneet’s mum’s secret recipe for Baked Paneer Cheesecake with Blood Orange.

Mum’s The Word: Bubbledogs Launch The Mama Chang Dog For Mother’s Day

In celebration of Mother’s Day, bubbledogs, the gourmet hot dog and Champagne bar in Fitzrovia, will play host to a specially created hot dog by Founder Sandia Chang’s mum, for the month of March. Raising a glass to all the mums out there, the’Mama Chang’ dog is a recipe straight from Chang senior’s kitchen, who Sandia describes as’not only my mother, but the best chef I know!’

Inspired by the sweet, savoury and spicy flavours of Taiwanese beef noodle soup, the Mama Chang dog takes a trip East and is topped with Chinese brown sauce and sautéed spicy pickled mustard green relish, served with bubbledogs signature handmade hotdogs and topped with fresh coriander (£7.50).

Bubbledogs’ full range of snacks and sides will also be available to add for further sustenance, including the all new Warm cheddar and honey corn muffins (£5), Egg plant caviar with croutons (£5), Vegetable kakiage, nori powder and honey mustard (£4) and Nachos with’the works’ (£6). Taking the place of an Easter egg, bubbledogs have also created a Chocolate Dog, made with Jivara chocolate ganache with sweet cinnamon brioche and cherry and banana sauce (£7).

For those mum’s who can’t make it to bubbledogs this March, the newly launched Bubble Shop is on hand to send them some love with a curated collection of grower Champagnes tested and tasted by Sandia herself, all of which come beautifully packaged for home delivery or collection from their Charlotte Street home.

Sartoria opens on Sundays

This Mother’s Day marks the launch of Sartoria on Sundays.  From Sunday 26th March, Sartoria will for the very first time open on Sundays for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a fantastic range of Italian roasts, created by Chef Patron Francesco Mazzei.  

The Roast All’Italiana is set to rotate every Sundaybetween chicken, suckling pig, veal rib and goat – perfect for sharing with family and friends, set to feed at least four people.  This Mother’s Day, the roast will be roast veal (arrosto di vitello) with an A La Carte menu of Francesco Mazzei’s signature dishes such as tortelli di burrata e ‘nduja and tiramisu.

Celebrate Mother’s Day this March at Tom’s Kitchen Canary Wharf with an indulgent brunch menu, including classic dishes with a twist such as truffled Egg’s Benedict.  In addition, during weekends, the restaurant also offers a play room stocked with toys, games and children’s TV, as well as allowing them to eat for free. For a truly special Mother’s Day enjoy some family time at Blanchette Soho and Blanchette Brick Lane! Founded by brothers, Maxime, Yannis and Malik Alary and lovingly named after their mother Blanche, on 26th March, both restaurants will recreate old recipes their mum used to make. 

Blanchette Brick Lane will be serving up Camembert crêpe with asparagus, ham, egg and hollandaise; while at Blanchette Soho the special will be Normandy seafood crêpe, with prawns, squid, mussels, creamy white wine sauce, saffron and brown crab rouille. 

Salt Yard’s free glass of fizz for mums

This Mother’s Day, all mothers will be given a complimentary glass of fizz across all sites with Salt Yard, including Salt Yard, Ember Yard, Dehesa, Opera Tavern and the recently launched Veneta.  In addition, the latest opening at Salt Yard, the Venetian-inspired Veneta restaurant will be serving a family feasting menu with free-flowing drinks.

Three-course Nordic feast and Mother’s Day bouquet at Aster

This Mothering Sunday, Aster invites diners to treat their mums to a three-course Nordic feast and a bunch of flowers from Maison de Fleurs.

Available from 12-4pm, the menu costs £35 per person, with mums receiving a complimentary glass of Mimosa and kids under 12 eating free. For an additional cost, diners can pre-order a beautiful Mother’s Day bouquet, which will be waiting at their table on arrival.
