Tortilla, the taco and burrito specialists with branches in Bankside and Islington, has a treat in store this Mother’s Day that will put a smile on the face of mums and kids alike. To celebrate Mothering Sunday on March 22, any under-12 who visits either of the restaurants with their mother and brings along a short essay on the subject of ‘Why I Love My Mother” will get a free meal for both of them. Even better, the fantastic offer runs the entire week, from Monday 16 to Sunday 22 March.*
With its Bankside branch so conveniently close to Tate Modern and its Islington branch in a prime spot by Angel tube, Tortilla makes the perfect place to stop for lunch on a family Sunday. Its menu is geared to appetites both small and large with a range of tortillas and tacos filled with freshly grilled steak, slowly braised, spice-rubbed pork, free range chicken or vegetables. There’s a range of mix and match sides to top them with including rice, beans, handmade salsa, sour cream, Monterey Jack cheese and freshly prepared guacamole. To accompany the tacos and tortillas, mums can indulge in a cheeky margarita, a Mexican beer or choose from the selection of soft drinks. Meals cost around £5 per head.
The first Tortilla restaurant opened in 2007 in Islington, quickly earning amazing accolades from Time Out (London’s Best Cheap Eats), the Metro (‘frankly excellent”) and numerous independent reviewers. In late 2008, the Tortilla team launched a second locations in Southwark, directly behind the Tate Modern in Bankside Mix – the only burrito joint in southeast London.
