Love the feel of an old-world country club? Can’t get enough of a good, juicy steak? Then you may well love the new, refurbished Dog & Fox in Wimbledon, which has recently undergone a complete redesign and now has an updated menu.

Designed in the style of an old country club, the Dog & Fox’s decor now features antique butler’s bells as well as walls adorned in vintage tennis racquets to give off an antique feel. We like the fact that the proprietors haven’t gone with the ubiquitous, trendy bare brick walls and bare-bulb lighting like so many establishments in London at the minute, and the look seems to match Wimbledon village perfectly.

The new menu from head chef Keith Stuart focuses on seasonal British produce, with the signature dish being a good old steak. The butchering and seasoning is done in-house, with a comprehensive selection of cuts to suit any palate. All are aged for 21 days for maximum flavour.

Other dishes include the likes of potted white and brown Brixham crabmeat with garlic mayonnaise, zesty lemon and sourdough toast, as well as oven baked sea bass with pearl barley, autumn greens and a shrimp and sweet corn broth. The drinks list is equally impressive, with an assortment of cocktails, craft beers and cask ales.

With a real emphasis on the local community, the Dog & Fox’s lively calendar of events includes the Big Dog Quiz each Sunday evening as well regular musical appearances from’Racquet’ – the aptly-named band made up of local ex-tennis players. With a proper menu, good drinks and entertainment, the Dog & Fox looks like a great place for Wimbledon residents to unwind. We hope to be reviewing it soon to find out if it lives up to expectations.
