Tiny Leaf is London’s first organic, vegetarian, zero waste restaurant. Taking temporary residence on Notting Hill’s Westbourne Park Road, being hosted by Bumpkin whilst looking for a more permanent home, the brand new concept turns surplus food donated by local food suppliers into a guilt-free gastronomic experience.
Spanning four floors, including a ground-floor bistro and juice bar, zero waste fine-dining restaurant, cinema and events space and botanical cocktail bar; Tiny Leaf brings a conscious yet fun eating experience to West London. Reflecting the restaurant’s surplus supply chain, menus change daily depending on would-be-waste deliveries from partners including Planet Organic and the UK’s largest wholesales of local and seasonal organic produce Langridge.
Using intelligent dining to educate and raise awareness of the food waste pandemic, Tiny Leaf is a long-standing dream of chef, writer and food activist Justin Horne. He believes one way to tackle the 18 million tonnes of food ending up in landfills each year is to “change people’s perception of what waste is, then we can change out how much waste we create.â€Â
20p per litre from the sale of Tiny Leaf’s alkaline bottled water will be donated to Whole World Water, an organisation that aims to improve water supplies to some of the one billion people that are still in need of clean water. In addition, Tiny Leaf will match fund each £1 voluntary donation to be added to each bill. with the money raised going to Refugee Community Kitchen Calais and the Soil Association. Diners can even do their bit, by taking leftovers home in free’bio-boxes’ made from biodegradable vegetable polymers.
On the top floor the events space referred to as’The Dark Room’, features a regular roster of like-minded guest speakers with food-conscious film and documentary screenings Highlights from the Tiny Leaf events calendar include a talk on organic farming & soil health from organic pioneer Craig Sams, a screening of documentary Just Eat It with a Q&A from food waste guru Tristam Stuart and a talk on biodynamic wines from sommelier Tom Harrow.
