Despite the weather beginning to fade, cocktails and canapés on a terrace are always worth checking out.
The restaurant has recently launched its new cocktail list with award-winning craft spirit and liqueur brand Ableforth’s, all to be enjoyed on the outdoor area aptly renamed #TredwellsTerrace.
There are five new additions to the menu created by Bar Manager, Nick Chang, who has taken inspiration from refreshing British classics and Ableforth’s creations.
Full of flavour from carefully chosen botanicals including coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, and clove, Ableforth’s was a natural choice for the team at Tredwells. Ableforth’s uncompromising use of the finest ingredients, expert techniques and fresh flavours of the delicate botanicals has a perfect synergy with the culinary philosophy of the kitchen and bar at Tredwells.
As we took our seats on the terrace braving the dark clouds above us and the persistent breeze, Nick introduced the first two cocktails we were going to try, both colourful and summery; a fruity and light Summer Cup Fizz (Ableforth’s Summer Fruit Cup, lemon, sugar, orange bitters, sparkling wine with freshly chopped seasonal fruit) and an elegant, beautiful looking Sloe Aviator made with Ableforth’s Bathtub Sloe Gin, vodka, violet, lemon, egg white. The latter was our absolute favourite, no doubt: subtle flavour, gently lingering with hints of flowers, delicate yet memorable at the same time.
The second round of cocktails Nick brought us were a classic, serious Tom Collins (Ableforth’s Bathtub Old Tom, lemon, Demerara sugar, soda) and an original and refreshing Rambunctious made with Ableforth’s Rumbullion!, rhubarb syrup, lime, soda.
To accompany such libations we enjoyed some of the bar menu snacks:’friggitelli’ (green peppers) chargrilled and topped with light, melty cheese, well cooked 35 days aged beef mini sliders in brioche buns and some of the best triple cooked chunky chips we’ve ever had with an airy, delicate, hollandaise mousse.
It might have been thanks to the cocktails, but by the last sip, the sun was even shining!
The terrace operates a walk-in policy, however it is possible to book a table at the restaurant for lunch and dinner. The terrace cocktails are priced at £11.50 each; bar snacks range between £3 and £10.
