Think mezcal, tacos, wicker chairs, white pebbles, succulents and palm trees but in central London.

April 28th saw Pergola Paddington, one of the capital’s rooftops, transform into a brand new summertime pop up: Pergola Paraíso, which is here to stay till end of summer.

An escapist paradise with a feel good summer energy, the Tulum-inspired beach club is taking its cues from the balmy beaches of Mexico, offering guests walk in and advance booking options. Complete with pop-up street food restaurants serving Mexican signature dishes and plenty of Margaritas.

We were welcomed through a striking archway framed by palm trees leading into a tropical paradise complete with wicker chairs and comfy sofas on white pebbles and a bespoke mural.

We sampled fresh ceviches by Crudo Cevicheria, swordfish tacos by Tacos Dos Mas, with a very hot and spicy salsa, which should have at least two chilli pepper signs next to it on the menu. And Mac & Cheese bites by Burger Shack (Filth&Co).

Pergola also features extensive menu of Margaritas including smoky Mezcal based drinks, which were my favourite and Pina Colada served in an actual pineapple from Tequila & Corona Bar.

But do make sure to queue for the pineapple early. Tequila & Corona Bar operates different opening hours from the normal bar. We got carried away relaxing in our egg chairs while sipping Margaritas and missed the pineapple bar closing.

There are also bookable cabana-style day beds, ideal for al fresco celebrations with friends, from lunch dates through to late night parties. The space boasts a large dance floor, a first for Pergola Paddington, with a roster of well-known DJs playing beach house at parties throughout the summer.

Pergola’s food hall-style seating is replaced with an abundance of Mexican plants and foliage, traditional rattan furniture, hammocks, kilim rugs and hanging ornaments for a lighter, more luxurious atmosphere.

Weekly ticketed ‘Dusk’ events will feature affairs with dancers, fire performers, live percussion and DJs bringing Tulum-style boho flamboyance to West London.

Pergola has also teamed up with Crudo Cevicheria and Dos Mas Tacos to bring a true taste of Mexico to Pergola Paraíso. A weekly rotating programme of events, from Margarita Mondays to Taco Tuesdays will also be on offer, alongside a re-imagined Filth&Co Burger Shack.

It also partnered with Corona to create a summertime holiday experience, serving refreshing Corona beer on draught and bottled table service, as well as Corona’s brand new alcohol free beer ‘Corona Cero’.

Unlike previous pop-ups, Pergola Paraíso will largely remain free to enter with no need to purchase a ticket, perfect for locals and office workers looking to upgrade their lunch break or post work drinks.
