Cinco de Mayo, the fifth of May, is a celebration of the Mexican army’s victory over France, during the Franco-Mexican War in 1862. The day is also known as Battle of Puebla Day and has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage.

Mijenta (pronounced Mee-hen-ta) spirits are carefully crafted with a commitment to environmental sustainability and support for the local community.

Here are three reasons why you should celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Mijenta this year:

1. Sustainable – As the first tequila to achieve B Corp status, in 2022, sustainability is at the heart of Mijenta’s process, including its design and packaging. All paper-related components (label and box) are made of agave waste. From farm to bottle, Mijenta is committed to sustainable practices, minimising environmental impact and maximising the community’s energy efficiency and Mijenta was completely carbon neutral in 2021.

2. Charity Partnerships – Mijenta is committed to supporting environmental charities and has partnered with Mexican charity, Whales of Guerrero, working to preserve and protect whales and help educate the local community.  Their work with The Ocean Foundation works to reverse the trend of destruction of global ocean environments and their support of the Women’s Earth Alliance aims to uplift women’s leadership within the agricultural sector. The Mijenta Foundation works hand in hand with local Jalisco businesses and communities, directly re-investing a portion of profits, offering healthcare assistance and providing assistance for team members and their families.

3. Delicious in cocktails or sipped neat – Enjoyed on the rocks or mixed into a cocktail, Mijenta’s signature aromatic palate, and smooth, fruity flavour are created in a meticulously slow process, using traditional methods and only using Blue Weber Agave from the highlands of Jalisco. Mijenta is not filtered, which enhances its unique character, and each bottle is individually numbered by hand.

About Mijenta Blanco Tequila

Mijenta Blanco Tequila is bright and transparent with a powerful body. On the nose are intense aromas of cooked agave, vanilla and caramel, enhanced by the slow cooking process and floral and fruity notes of cantaloupe and peaches. On the palate are rich flavours of cooked agave, vanilla, fresh fruit and spices such as cinnamon.

About Mijenta Reposado Tequila

Mijenta Reposado Tequila is aged up to six months in a blend of American white oak, French oak and French acacia casks. Each of the 180-litre barrels is filled to a specific level to allow room for oxygenation, an important element of the process as the spirit evolves from day to night.  During the highest temperatures of the day, the tequila expands within the barrel, finding its way through the pores of the charred oaks and acacia, to encounter all the richness of the wood. At night, when the barrels cool off, the infused tequila returns to mix with the rest of the barrel. Over a period of six months, the tequila is tasted every 15 days to identify when it has reached its optimum flavour profile.

Tasting Notes: Presenting a more mature and fuller expression with a long finish on the palate, the Reposado possesses a delicate and inviting vanilla nose with notes of bergamot, honey, preserved fruits – such as cherry and pear – and orange blossom flowers, together with a mid-palate of cacao nibs.

Mijenta Reposado Tequila has recently been awarded a Master Award in The Spirits Business Tequila & Mezcal Masters 2022, 99 points by the distinguished Tasting Panel magazine and a Gold award by Tequila Aficionado.
