Wales’ only whisky distillery, Penderyn Distillery, has teamed up with some of London’s top bars to give out free drams of smooth and warming ‘Welsh Gold’ to Londoners every Wednesday this winter.

The activity starts on 17 November from 5pm-7pm, kicking off with West End whisky emporium, Albannach (www.albannach.co.uk) and city style bar, Mint Leaf Lounge (www.mintleaflounge.com). However, these bars will change every Wednesday, so to find the latest promotional venue, whisky lovers simply need to visit Penderyn’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/penderyn) or follow Penderyn on Twitter (www.twitter.com/PenderynWhisky), where we will be announcing the venues every Wednesday morning. Once you have found your nearest bar, head down and simply say the magic of phrase of ‘Welsh Whisky Wednesday” to claim your complementary glass of whisky.

The sole whisky distillery in Wales, Penderyn Distillery is also one of the smallest whisky distilleries in the world and only produces a hogshead of its ‘Welsh Gold” (or Aur Cymru in Welsh) each day. Penderyn launched just 11 years ago, in 1999, and its Madeira cask expression has become widely recognised as one of the finest whiskies available, with accolades including a ‘Best in Class’ award at The International Wine & Spirit Competition 2008. More recently, Penderyn has been recognised by the prestigious and famously patriotic Edinburgh-based Scotch Malt Whisky Society, who will be selling the Welsh whisky to their highly discerning whisky drinking members.

Jim Murray, author of The Whisky Bible, says of the whisky:

“Absolutely staggering arrival on the palate of malt, landing with almost snowflake delicateness. Immediately a second movement, this time of bitter-sweet fruit, blood orange included, sweeps down over the startled taste buds. Astonishing stuff.”
