With its doors reopening just in time for winter celebrations, Mexican restaurant group Wahaca is dialling up the festive cheer this December.

mcith_taquito.pngWhether it’s street food feasts to share, brand new bottled cocktails, seasonal specials or Mexican dishes to prepare at home there’s something for everyone to enjoy this Christmas, whether eating out or staying in.

Taking culinary cues from both Mexico and Britain, the Turkey taquito (£5.95) combines roast turkey with smoky bacon, chestnut, sage and apricot stuffing in a crisp corn tortilla, topped with a sweet hibiscus salsa, fresh tomatillo guacamole and crema.

For a seasonal special that’s plant-based the Romano pepper (£5.75) isa colourful and Christmassy vegan dish, roasted and filled with Riverford Organic squash, herb rice and olives and served with ancho relish and pumpkin seed mole.

And, giving a Christmas classic a distinctly Mexican twist, the Mince pie empanada (£5.95) is a crispy, sugar-coated parcel with mezcal-soaked mincemeat and served with brandy butter ice cream.

The Festive Feast (£25 per person) for two sees classic street food favourites such as Pork pibil tacos and Buttermilk chicken tacos, both now made using free range British meat, joined by the Turkey taquito, Organic squash & crumbled feta tostadas, Roast garden veg tacos, Crispy cauliflower bites and a side of Grilled tenderstem broccoli – finished off with the Mince pie empanada. A Veggie Feast (£22 per person) is also available.

While crackers may be off the Covid-secure Christmas table, visitors to Wahaca can’pull’ a digital version for the chance to win a Christmas cocktail among other  prizes.

A new AR version of the Wahaca menu – a first of its kind for UK restaurants – makes its debut for Christmas. The interactive menu allows diners to use their phones to access information about different dishes, guided by a digital version of Wahaca co-founder Thomasina Miers.

Each box also contains ready-to-cook Black bean & cheese quesadillas, all the ingredients to make Wahaca’s guacamole and a generous helping of tortilla chips. And for the sweet finish, dive into a chocolate brownie, served with cajeta – a silky smooth Mexican caramel.

A classic cocktail – bottled! Tommi’s classic margarita (£8.75) is the perfect tipple to accompany an at-home taco feast, with a double shot of Gran Centenario tequila shaken up with agave nectar and lime juice.

Wahaca’s Espresso martini and Passion fruit margarita have also been bottled and all are available via click & collect, takeaway and Deliveroo. For those raising a glass in restaurants, the Christmas Bellini (£7.25) adds a touch of seasonal sparkle, mixing prosecco with fresh pomegranate and garnished with pomegranate seeds and a sprig of fresh rosemary.
