The Angel has re-opened in on Islington’s City Road. Situated just around the corner from Old Street’s Silicon Roundabout, the pub is already something of a local institution – in fact, there’s been a watering hole named The Angel on City Road since as far back as the 18th century.
Sporting a new interior throughout, The Angel has dual-level bar areas, with the ground floor decked out like a traditional pub and the airy first floor offering ample space for lounge-style drinking and dining.
A host of drinks are on offer behind the pub’s two bars, with Brooklyn Lager and Camden Hells among the speciality draught beers available, alongside a quartet of superbly kept cask ales. A number of guest beers will also rotate year-round, while an expertly selected wine list and collection of house spirits offer an alternative for those regarding beer as the Devil’s work.
The food menu combines carefully sourced ingredients to create a selection of modern classics. Current highlights include Salt & Pepper Squid with a spicy mayonnaise dip, slow-cooked BBQ Beef Short Rib with fries & coleslaw, Pork & Chorizo Burger with caramelised red onion & fries and a Raspberry & Peach Crumble with apple sorbet.
As you’d expect from the name, Sundays are sacred at The Angel. Start your day of rest with a spice-your-own Bloody Mary before moving on to one of the pub’s stellar Sunday roasts, available throughout the day. Choose from 21-day aged Hereford Beef, Shropshire Chicken, Norfolk Pork or a Cashew, Walnut & Cheddar Nut Roast, all of which come served with all the traditional trimmings.
