Following May’s fiery Fizz, Tikka & a Chaat party, The Drop wine bar today announces its Best of British Drop-In on Tuesday, 11th June.

mcith_drop.jpgFrom 6pm, The Drop will host a casual and un-ticketed Best of British night, coinciding with the end of British Wine Week.

The Drop will be serving its take on a Great British Picnic, including a selection of sandwiches; Slow cooked beef brisket (cooked outside on the Green Egg) and horseradish; and Mushroom and stilton; as well as Gorgonzola, caramelized onion and spinach tart, Homity pies, Pork pies, Sausage Rolls and Scotch eggs with homemade piccalilli, chutney and pickles.

For pudding, there will be a traditional Victoria sponge and Lemon drizzle to choose from.

The Drop-In will feature a carefully selected list of British wine. While not historically known for its grapes, the UK now has one of the fastest growing wine industries in the world, led by a new wave of innovative British wine makers and their brilliant home-grown wines.

On the menu, there will be several wines from Ancre Hill in Wales, including a naturally fermented orange wine; as well as a classic sparkling from Gusbourne in West Sussex. Winemaker and friend, Adrian Pike from Westwell, a vineyard set on the chalky slopes of the North Downs in Kent, will be there on the night too.

Pike will have several of his wines featured throughout the month such as the pale Ortega Classic Pink and Westwell Field – a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – and will be delighted to mingle with guests and answer any questions. Wines will be available by the glass, bottle or in a flight of three.

The Best of British night is part of The Drop’s series of Drop-In tastings, each focused on a certain wine region or style of wine.

In the coming months, July 9th will feature rosé wines with Provençal inspired dishes, and Greek wines with a Mediterranean feast on August 6th.

The Drop’s monthly events are intended to be a genuinely accessible, delicious and sociable way to discover new wines and develop your palate.

The Drop team will be on hand to engage with guests about the wines, but there is no commitment to do anything more than try whatever you want to.

The main a la carte menu will not be available on event evenings, however there will always be a vegetarian option available.

To join the Best of British Wine & Picnic Drop-In, turn up to The Drop, Coal Drops Yard, from 6pm on Tuesday 11th June.
