Bedruthan Steps Hotel. A classic Cornwall break
Monday September 26th, 2011There’s a magic moment as the First Great Western train leaves Exeter when you finally know that you’ve quit London. Suddenly the monotonous banks of earth and fields of green give way onto what seems like an endless expanse of water. The wet sand is reflecting a late September sun and small boats lean drunkenly in all directions, patiently waiting the return of the tide to float them back to sober and dignified bobbing.

Doing the rounds with Ricker
Friday September 23rd, 2011There were some delicious starters, however, at Eight over Eight in Chelsea. Apparently this place is a hit with the yummy mummies who (*delight*) have no idea the salads they wolf can contain fatty lashings of delicious palm sugar – v. common in south-east Asian foods – not that they care, what with debating the next buggy brand to adopt.

ProCook Glass Teapot: Clearly a good teapot
Monday September 19th, 2011In spite of coffee being the drink that gets me going in the morning of every day, I revert to tea after a languid lunch or a comforting dinner. Tea is the signature of a well written meal. But I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to this centenary drink.

It's alive! Westfield Stratford City opens for business
Sunday September 18th, 2011It’s a bit eerie at Westfield Stratford, thousands of people all walking in the same direction and with the same expression on their face. ‘Day of the dead,’ says M glumly as we watch from behind the safety of our security barrier, He’s right the resemblance to zombies is undeniable, although to be fair most zombies wouldn’t be seen undead in a shell suit and many have better complexions.

Take it slow and win up to £3,500 with Crock-Pot
Monday September 5th, 2011The point of a slow cooker is twofold. Slow cooking makes cheap cuts of meat tender and slow cookers can be left pretty much to themselves all day. This means that you can come home to a hot meal with tasty aromas filling the house, and in my case back then, drowning out the aroma of Mark B’s waccy baccy, which he grew in the attic under arc lights until the police came round questioning our power consumption.

The Slow Cook Book
Friday September 2nd, 2011I’m very impatient – so much so that if something takes ninety seconds in the microwave, I’ll put it in for eighty-eight so as to avoid the time spent getting my index finger across the vast expanse of keypad separating the ‘9’ and the ‘0’.
