Mother’s Day Menu Offer at Tamarind

Give mothers a well-deserved break from the stove on Mothering Sunday this March 22 at Tamarind, the opulent and award-winning Indian restaurant in Mayfair. This year, executive chef Alfred Prasad has created two creative and mouth watering three course menus (one of which is fully vegetarian) especially for the day. And as an extra treat for the sons and daughters footing the bill, the £35 a head menus are on special offer so two guests can dine for the price of one.

Pass the mustard

We tend to think of mustard as an accompaniment to cuts of meat, pork pies or sandwiches. However, there’s more to mustard than meets the eye, it’s not merely a condiment it’s also a truly versatile ingredient. Mustard can be used in a vast range of recipes to add piquancy, depth and flavour.

Come and plant a vine at KIngs Cross

Once upon a time the Kings Cross area was better known for wasted winos than it was for wine. It’s an indication of how things have changed to discover that vines are about to be planted here. An old piece of wasteland just behind Kings Cross could soon be producing Britain’s next breed of wine, but more importantly it is hoped it will encourage others in London to follow suit, go green and explore the possibilities of turning wasteland into fantastic food and wine producing areas.

Saki Bar & Food Emporium Restaurant

It’s hidden place Saki. In the evening the shop above closes and you could be forgiven for thinking there was no restaurant there at all. This shyness, combined with the Dickensian darkness of West Smithfield at night, means you might never venture down the stairs to the bar and restaurant beneath. You’d be slapping yourself forcefully with a wet tuna if you didn’t though because this is a very good restaurant indeed.

The Double Club restaurant

I ventured to ‘The Double Club’ on a double date. The west meets the Congo (and vice versa) in this temporary venture, produced by Prada. Down a dark cobbled alley behind Angel tube, it was an unlikely find. A Victorian warehouse is awning to three spaces woven by artists and graced by fashionistas. The mind behind is Carsten Höller, a German gripped by Congo-mania..

Meat & Wine Co

Knowing my fondness for frippery and resistance to retail, I was surprised when Foodepedia’s Führer posted me to the ‘Meat & Wine Co.’. Established on the approach to Westfield, London’s latest shopping juggernaut, it represents a South African firms first stake (and steaks) in the U.K.

Gilgamesh restaurant

Recession what recession? Those in work are having it large, with ever decreasing mortgage repayments giving them more cash to splash. Maybe that’s why here in Gilgamesh on a Wednesday night the bar is pretty full and the restaurant is too. In the private dining room, a hundred and fifty people are tucking into chef Ian Pengelley’s Pan Asian food and the man himself can be seen in his open kitchen toiling away happily.

Pulling the perfect pint with Diageo

So who knew that one company, Diageo, were responsible for, or had an interest in, the production of such a wide range of alcoholic beverages that you wouldn’t have to go anywhere else to achieve a well stocked bar? We were amazed at the products they have under their umbrella organisation, including more than 20 Scottish single malt whisky varieties, gins, vodkas, tequila and Baileys. They even have an interest in Moet and Chandon Champagne.
