I’m 40 meters above an asphalt parking lot on the South Bank of the Thames, literally eye-to-Eye with London’s famous Ferris wheel, strapped into a padded leather swivel chair that must be the tallest barstool in the world. There’s nothing but air beneath my feet—or, arguably, between my ears, given my current predicament. Ah, the lengths—and heights—I’ll go to for whisky.

Harrods launch their Festival of British Food with Valentine Warner

Ably fronted by celebrity chef, Valentine Warner, Harrods launched their Festival of British Food, on Wednesday this week, the festival runs for a little over two weeks until 3 October. For the launch food writers were invited to lunch in The Terrace Bar on the fourth floor where we met and mingled with British food producers, myself clutching my flute of Knightsbridge, English sparkling wine.

‘Hand-picked’ by Harvey Nichols

The idea of Handpicked is that head chef Jeremy Bloor from Harvey Nick’s OXO restaurant takes the press to visit one of his suppliers, in this case, his cheese one. Towny girl Anita Pati tags along avoiding cowpats and gets to eat a locally sourced al fresco lunch in a field with a load of random strangers.

A potted tale of Canteen

On the 19th of October 2005, Canteen was opened to the public at Old Spitalfields Market where it was welcomed with open arms. Fast forward to today, Canteen remains a firm favourite of critics and customers alike and continues to serve traditional dishes like devilled kidneys, potted duck, fish and chips and treacle tart. And it seems that everyone who is anyone on the food scene has eaten there, liked it and written about it; everyone from A A Gill to Fay Maschler.
