Hey chocolate lover, Foodepedia knows that Chocolate Week is like Christmas for you. So for Chocolate Week this year (11-17th October), we’ve put together a few other things that you could do to celebrate.
Foodepedia’s pick of Chocolate Week Treats
Many of you chocolate lovers will know that Chocolate Week is coming up. From the 11th of October, Britain will be whipped into a chocolate consumption frenzy, ending with Chocolate Unwrapped at the Vinopolis on 16th and 17th of October. To help with the indulgence, the Foodepedia team (and a few lucky volunteers) gathered around the office to try out some truly delicious chocolates to give you our pick of Chocolate Week consumables.
Truffle making with William Curley
Every year, when the weather turns wintry and Christmas is on the horizon, I would start my search for the perfect dark chocolate truffle for the season. So when I heard about William Curley’s chocolate making masterclass, I thought to myself “what a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon”.
Divine’s Dark Chocolate with Ginger & Orange
When it comes to ethical chocolate there’s no company more synonymous with Fairtrade than Divine Chocolate. What with it being Chocolate Week and all, we thought it was worth bringing to your attention Divine’s Dark Chocolate with Ginger & Orange; a delicious chocolate made by the people for the people, in more ways than one.
Thai Street Food- David Thomas
Using three chapters – morning, noon and night – Thomas takes you through what the average Thai is tasting and it’s a hell of a lot. Thais seem to eat nonstop. His commentary and explanation is illuminating and his guide to basic prep and cooking technique very useful. There’s barely a dish in the book that I wouldn’t snap up if it was available in my street.
Catalan Cooking Class at Hospes Villa Paulita
Hospes Hotels are offering authentic Catalan cookery courses at their 5 star Villa Paulita in the region of Cerdanya in the heart of the Spanish Pyrenees. The first cookery class focusing on sourcing and cooking wild forest mushrooms, is set to take place on the 25th and 26th of October.
Divine 85% dark chocolate recipes from Tom Aikens, Lily Vanilli & Ian Marber
Farmer-owned chocolate company Divine Chocolate has teamed up with Lily Vanilli, Tom Aikens and Ian Marber for some fabulous chocolate recipes using their new 85% Dark Chocolate bar. Why not have a go at making their creations? It is Chocolate Week after all!
Sheba, Brick Lane
Sheba has done well in Brick Lane, even being winner of the 2006 / 2007 Chef of the Year Brick Lane Curry Festival. Fading clippings in their window testify that local papers like it and that one day, the Evening Standard even popped in. I didn’t see a clipping of Ken Livingstone shaking the owner’s hand but it must have been there somewhere, every curry house had to have one of those back in the 1980s, it was a GLC by-law.
Cloudy Bay Chef’s Table at The Montagu, Hyatt Regency
Qin Xie was invited to The Montagu at Hyatt Regency, London, to sample a rather special meal. The meal was special in that the entire menu had been created to complement a small portfolio of six New Zealand wines rather than the usual method of matching wine to food. It’s also special because these new world wines are almost exclusive to The Montagu restaurant at the Hyatt Regency since so few cases have been imported into the UK.
