If only all pubs were welcoming drinking taverns that also managed to knock out robust and hearty British nosh. Unfortunately, far too many ‘gastro pubs’ have forgotten that they were once pubs at all, while the rest of the capital’s locals now seem to now serving Thai food.

It would be a shame to let the hotel atmosphere downstairs put you off ascending to Nipa because the combination of warm welcome, authentic carefully considered cooking and really rather reasonable prices mark this place out as well worth a visit.

Mango Tree Thai New Year Party – 8th April 2009 in association with Chang Beer

As part of the celebrations, throughout April, Mango Tree will be supporting WaterAid, a charity helping to overcome poverty by enabling the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water. Diners at Mango Tree will have the opportunity to donate 50p each for unlimited tap water, with all donations going straight to WaterAid. This is part of the charity’s Tap into WaterAid initiative, where restaurants across the UK are encouraging their customers to make a small donation in return for tap water.

I seem to have been in the Connaught bar rather a lot recently, well twice to be precise, and in the self same seat too. The first time was to sample vodkas and now a line of gin filled glasses are looking warily at me. All this is after eating a large pizza and a drinking the best part of a bottle of red wine earlier.
