Together with some 30 media colleagues, I arrived at Hays Galleria – by London Bridge – with a view to hitching a ride on the ‘sherry ferry’ to Canary Wharf pier. This trip had been arranged so that Richard Bigg could introduce us to his latest bar/restaurant, Camino Puerto Del Canario. Camino, Puerto Del Canarion really should be experienced, try getting there on the ferry, it’s very relaxing.

Basque terroiriste – great taste at Fortnum’s
‘Smell the fat!’ Pierre insists holding out a slice to me. I do and can pick up notes of fresh butter, hazelnuts and fern. ‘Look at the colour, he adds. It is dark red, marbled with bright white fat. ‘Hold it on your tongue and let it dissolve!’ I do and it is quite superb, one of the best hams I’ve had this year, and believe me I’ve had a few.
