Masala Zone opens. No goody bag for writer

There is another Masala Zone in town. The owners of Amaya, Chutney Mary, Veeraswamy and five other MZs have done their number six in Bayswater. Aptly, they have dropped this recession-proof concept on the site of a former bank – recession-proof because the chain remains great value at under a tenner for a thali..

A nice glass of Chianti…..

We were invited to take ‘A tour through Italy’s vineyards’, not literally you understand, this all took place in two adjoining rooms of Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair, a stone’s throw from London’s Green Park. Who could resist the opportunity to taste some of the Italy’s fine regional wines at a sophisticated location? Perhaps though, quaffing lovely beverages in the Italian sunshine would have been somewhat more of an attractive proposition.

YO! Sushi gets a makeover

The launch of the refurbished YO! Sushi restaurant on the second floor of the Whiteleys Shopping mall, Bayswater, was colourful to say the least. Front of house staff greeted us with drinks, having dressed for the occasion in kimonos, Geisha style. Go and have a look, and while there why not relax in the booth style seating and try some of the interesting dishes that are on offer.

Anyone for a barbie?

On a typical summer’s evening of intermittent rain, thunder and sunny spells, the Meat & Wine Co. at the Westfield shopping centre recently held their Australian Barbeque. The aim of the evening was to pair Australian wines with typically Australian barbeque fare. We enjoyed what we tasted and they are certainly worth trying.

Get bowled over at The White Hart

The bar at The White Hart is an ideal spot to wile away the afternoon and evening watching the cricket on the big screen or to gather a crowd for your own screening in The White Hart’s upstairs private room with its plasma screen and Sky Sports. Whether it’s the Ashes (8th July—24th August) or the One Day Internationals and Twenty/20 vs Australia (30th August—17th September)
