Time for Tagine with Emile Henry

As a simple, effective way of feeding up to eight people, the classy Emile Henry Tagine is the tops. Like a good casserole or stew there’s pretty much nothing that can go wrong with a tagine cooking session, but it scores high marks for real wow factor and ia magical way with tenderising meat. In a TV commercial a few years back a grumpy old lady bitterly complained that her local bank branch had been turned into ‘a trendy wine bar’. Well here around Threadneedle Street there’s hardly a bank branch left that isn’t now a restaurant or bar and while Mint Leaf may be the only ‘Indian’ it is rather trendy.

Ondine to open in Edinburgh

Chef Roy Brett is so excited by his latest venture that he can hardly sleep. Named ‘Ondine’ after the water sprite who marries a mortal in Sir Frederick Ashton’s ballet, the 80 plus cover seafood bar and restaurant opens soon in Edinburgh. Douglas Blyde went to the building site to see him.

The Britannia

This imposing Victorian pub is cavernous and it is not until you walk through the entrance that you get a feel for the scale of the place. With good quality, well cooked dishes at reasonable prices, The Britannia is certainly worth visiting.
