Jom Makan. Malaysian on wheels

Jom Makan means ‘Let’s go eat’ in Malaysian, which is the sort of invitation I like to receive. So much better than ‘Come into my office and shut the door,’ which in my experience has never ended particularly well.

My cousin Rosa

The book is divided into sensible sections that essentially follow the long timeline of an Italian meal – antipasto, brodo, pasta, carne e pesce, verdura and dolce. Each is punctuated by Rosa’s reminiscences of her life and her family’s life in Sicily and the photographs throughout are in the currently popular style which flattens colours to attractive earthy tones.

Beer on a plate

For a tasty, cool treat on a hot summer night, serve a glass of cold beer alongside a dish that uses the same beer as an ingredient. Whether you prefer your food hot off the grill or refreshingly chilled, use your favorite style of beer to add a special flavor to the recipe.

Avocado ginger and lime yoghurt ice cream

With the sun rumoured to be bursting forth, our culinary inspiration is turning towards lighter, more refreshing food. Desserts which need minimal last minute preparation are the order of the day now (so that we can spend maximum time relaxing, hopefully outdoors, with our friends). A capital day out

Taste of London, Regent’s Park, London, 18-21 June 2009. Gastronomy couldn’t be more democratic this summer. Over 40 of the capital’s hottest eating spots are descending on London’s leafy Regent’s Park for the world’s greatest restaurant festival – Taste of London (18-21 June 2009), in partnership with British Airways.

Kings of Chelsea?

The gastropub now sits at the top table of the British restaurant scene following an extraordinary rise in recent years. If Tom and Ed Martin are contenders for the throne of London’s gastro kings, it’s fitting then that we find their latest opening, the Cadogan Arms, in the regal setting of King’s Road, Chelsea.

Wine for Women with Wine Couture

Wine Couture is the ultimate wine club for women. This first event in the capital is a unique occasion – a tutored tasting of German wines, including the exclusive wine from the Handel family vineyard.

Enter the Dragon – Jing teas are a cup of deliciousness

The package on my desk says ‘Pre Rain Organic Dragon Well Supreme Green Tea | Long Jing Dragon Well green tea. Picked on 1st April 2009 from Dragon’s Staff garden. The first of the year, before the Qing Ming festival.’ Blimey, this is tea with serious provenance, they could probably tell you the picker’s star sign too, if you wanted.
